Vikings: GM candidate Kwesi Adofo-Mensah told they’ll ‘cancel his flight’ leaving interview
The Vikings interviewed Kwesi Adofo-Mensah for their general manager position and fans took notice of something said to him as he left the interview.
Like several other teams out there, the Minnesota Vikings have spent the week trying to nail down the hiring of a new general manager.
On Tuesday, hints that they are on the verge of doing just that hit social media.
It started with the Bears hiring Ryan Poles from the Chiefs. He was one of Minnesota’s top two candidates for the job, per Adam Schefter.
The other candidate, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah from the Browns, was tapped by Ian Rapoport as the Vikings’ expected hire.
The probability of that only grew when local FOX 9 reporter Dawn Mitchell posted a video of Adofo-Mensah leaving his interview at Minnesota’s facilities. On his way out the door, someone said something that fans immediately picked up on.
“I’ll cancel your flight,” a voice from within the building seemed to say.
Vikings apparently canceled GM candidate Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s return flight
No one truly knows what that statement could have been about. Maybe the Vikings intend to continue interviewing Adofo-Mensah on Wednesday, thus needing him to stay in Minneapolis.
Or maybe the team has already made the decision and intends to keep him around by completing the hire.
Whatever it is, it looks like things are moving quickly for Minnesota.
Adofo-Mensah was a candidate for GM openings after spending the last two years as the Browns vice president of football operations. He also spent time with the 49ers organization.
After completing a GM hire, the Vikings can move on to identify their next head coach.
They parted ways with Rick Spielman, who had been the general manager since 2012, and head coach Mike Zimmer after a disappointing 2021 season.
