Giants are emphatic about Deshaun Watson trade rumors

New York Giants co-owner John Mara made it more than clear the team will not try and trade for quarterback Deshaun Watson. 

Plenty of changes are coming for the New York Giants, but it doesn’t look like a switch will be coming at quarterback. On Wednesday, the team officially introduced new general manager Joe Schoen and he said this team is fully behind Daniel Jones.

As soon as a head coach is hired, the team will be ready to build around Jones. With that said, co-owner John Mara backed Schoen up and said that there’s no way the Giants will try and trade for former Pro-Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans.

No Deshaun Watson trade is coming for the New York Giants

For the Giants, they’re not ready to give up on Jones, who they used a first-round pick on. Meanwhile for Watson, no one knows what’s going to happen to him leading up to next season. His situation is a bit mirky, as he’s yet to settle the sexual misconduct lawsuits filed against him.

Those cases kept him off the field for the entirety of the 2021 season. Watson has been linked to many teams, including the Giants, Vikings and others. While he could end up making his way to Minnesota, Mara and Schoen wasted no time in shutting down any idea that New York would try and acquire him.

This may be disappointing for some Giants fans, as people were complaining throughout the campaign about Jones’ play before he suffered his season-ending neck injury. Jones will be given full trust for next year, though. Meanwhile for Watson, we’re going to have to keep waiting to find out which jersey he’ll be wearing starting next September.
