Aaron Rodgers rumors: Tom Brady retirement opens up new trade destination
By John Buhler
With Tom Brady retiring, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a new and intriguing trade destination for the Green Bay Packers to potentially send Aaron Rodgers to.
The Green Bay Packers could potentially trade Aaron Rodgers to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers so that he can replace Tom Brady.
While Tampa Bay may not be all that serious of a landing spot for Rodgers, the Buccaneers are in dire need of a starting quarterback. The Denver Broncos have long made the most sense as a potential trade destination for Rodgers, especially now that they have hired his former offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett to be their next head coach. But what about the Buccaneers?
At the very least, the Buccaneers’ new quarterbacking vacancy gives the Packers even more leverage to get the best deal possible for their best player.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Are they a place Aaron Rodgers could be traded to?
In theory, it would be fun to see Rodgers compete in the weak NFC South and push for a Super Bowl somewhere outside of Titletown. However, there are so many reasons why Denver is the superior trade partner for the Packers. Hackett aside, the Broncos play in the opposite conference of Green Bay. They have good players outside of quarterback and better draft capital over Tampa.
The other thing is how aligned do we think Rodgers will be with head coach Bruce Arians. The Buccaneers head coach’s catchphrase is “No risk it, no biscuit.” Rodgers hates to throw interceptions. Though they both may enjoy the occasional cocktail, Rodgers’ vaccination status is probably not going to fly with Arians. Outside of Antonio Brown, every Buccaneer was vaccinated.
While Rodgers to Tampa Bay could be fireworks, it could also be oil and water. Plus, why would Rodgers want to replace the greatest quarterback of all time? All that is going to do is ding his legacy. Again, this is why Denver is the far superior option. The Broncos have been horrific offensively since Peyton Manning lost his fastball. The entry point is way better for him there.
Even if Arians and Rodgers may not mesh, the Buccaneers’ vacancy only gives the Packers even more leverage in sending a team like the Broncos its frustrated franchise quarterback.
