Brittany Matthews, fiancée to Patrick Mahomes, received online hate messages for spraying fans with champagne after the Chiefs’ Divisional Round win. Now, she’s using that platform to stop bullying.

Matthews fought back against some of that bullying, saying that she was tired of being routinely attacked online by people who don’t even know her.

“I just wish I could do what I want without getting attacked every week,” Matthews said.

That’s a fair topic for discussion, as Matthews’ platform as a Chiefs superfan alongside Mahomes makes her an easy target. Rather than continuing to fight against a mass of online trolls, Matthews has decided to take matters into her own hands.

Chiefs: Brittany Matthews turns online hate into a positive

Matthews felt attacked for what would otherwise seem like a simple response to Mahomes’ game-winning drive. She sprayed champagne on some fans in the upper level, and while none of them seemed to have an issue with it, those who witnessed the event online did.

The 26-year-old has opted to turn this event into a positive, rather than focusing merely on the negativity against her.

“Me and my team have decided to try to turn this buzz into something and something good for the Kansas City community,” Matthews said Thursday via Instagram. “We have decided that part of the proceeds from the sales of this shirt are gonna go to Red Card KC which is a local charity here in Kansas City that works to prevent bullying.”

Matthews didn’t state exactly how much of the proceeds will go to Red Card KC, but it is a step in the right direction to stop online hate and bullying, something many people deal with — even those who aren’t as well-known as Mahomes’ fiancée.

“I do receive a lot of hate on a daily basis on social media and I know so so so many other people do as well,” Matthews said. “That’s why I’m just proud to partner with this company and get behind this cause and hopefully push everything into the right direction and start spreading some more positivity on all of these platforms.”

Hopefully, this lessens some of the heat on Matthews, and helps those in need at the same time.
