The Cleveland Plain Dealer took a parting shot at Ben Roethlisberger, albeit a particularly weak one given his career success against the Browns.

Big Ben finished his career with a record of 25-3-1 against the Cleveland Browns over 18 years. That’s utter dominance.

Yet, leave it to Cleveland to find the positive side of things. The Cleveland Plain Dealer ran with a headline that, while fact, seems to hide Roethlisberger’s overall success against the Browns.

Writers don’t usually come up with the headlines, especially in the old-school journalism model, so this was not the work of Dan Labbe, who was credited as the author of this newser. Instead, the Plain Dealer editing crew is to blame.

Ben Roethlisberger won’t be missed in Cleveland

An Ohio native, Roethlisberger surely won’t be missed outside of his hometown of Findlay. Big Ben played for Miami (OH) in college, only to be drafted by the state’s largest professional football rival in 2004 — the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Roethlisberger would spend all 18 years of his career in the Steel City, never batting an eye at either the Browns or the Cincinnati Bengals. For the most part, both organizations were in a constant state of chaos during Roethlisberger’s Steelers tenure, and he took advantage of that fact.

In his later years, though, the Browns did manage to break through in a big way. Cleveland defeated Roethlisberger in their only playoff matchup, beating the Steelers 48-37 in a game they once led 28-0 in the first quarter.

Sadly for the Browns, they were unable to build upon that momentum this past season, while Roethlisberger made the playoffs in his final campaign. In his 18 seasons, Roethlisberger never had a losing campaign, while the Browns had…several. He’ll always be loved in Cleveland.

Browns fans, meanwhile, ought to raise a glass to Roethlisberger’s departure. His run with the Steelers is finally over.
