Baylor traveled to Tuscaloosa and got upset by Alabama in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, so now we take a look at the projected college basketball rankings.

It was always going to be a massive weekend for the top teams in the college basketball rankings with two of the premier conferences in the country this season, the SEC and Big 12, partaking in a head-to-head challenge featuring some of the top teams in the country. But before everyone got to take in Kentucky-Kansas, the No. 4-ranked Baylor Bears found a bit of trouble.

On the road facing an enigmatic Alabama Crimson Tide team, Nate Oats’ squad out of the SEC found their offensive mojo on their home floor and just blitzed one of the best defenses in the country for 40 minutes. While Baylor made their best effort to erase a deficit late, the Tide kept coming and wouldn’t be denied the upset win.

With a top-five team going down on the road now, we’ll have to see how the college basketball rankings will get shaken up after this upset in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.

Projected college basketball rankings after Alabama upsets Baylor

  1. Auburn Tigers
  2. Gonzaga Bulldogs
  3. Kansas Jayhawks
  4. Purdue Boilermakers
  5. Houston Cougars
  6. Baylor Bears
  7. UCLA Bruins
  8. Arizona Wildcats
  9. Duke Blue Devils
  10. Michigan State Spartans

Even with a road loss to Alabama now sullying their record on the season, you could still make the argument that few teams in the country have the overall résumé of Baylor. Thus, they aren’t going to drop all that far down in the college basketball rankings.

With that being said, we could still see quite a bit of movement in the rankings throughout the remainder of Saturday’s action. After all, currently No. 5-ranked Kansas and No. 12-ranked Kentucky are also doing battle in the SEC/Big 12 challenge, which will obviously have a big effect on the rankings.

All told, though, there shouldn’t be too much change within the top 10 as the majority of those teams have both taken care of business this week and separated themselves from the pack.
