The 30-man and 30-woman Royal Rumble matches take place at the annual WWE event on Saturday, Jan. 29. Here are the rules for this specific match.
Every year, wrestling fans look forward to the end of January. That is because it is Royal Rumble time, and you never know what you can expect, especially in the 30-person battle royal matches. These matches carry huge significance, as they carry huge WrestleMania implications.
The winners of the Men’s and Women’s Royal Rumble matches at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, Mo will earn a main event championship match at the two-night WrestleMania show, taking place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Apr. 2-3.
Hardcore wrestling fans know the rules to the signature match, but for those of you who are not sure of them, we have you covered.
WWE Royal Rumble rules, explained
The Royal Rumble match begins with the individuals who drew the No. 1 and 2 spots in the match. A new entrant walks down the ramp and to the ring every 90-seconds. That will take place until the wrestler who drew No. 30 enters the ring.
The only way a wrestler is eliminated from the match is when they are thrown over the top rope and once two feet touch the ringside floor. That’s right, when thrown over the top rope and two feet touching the floor. If a wrestler is thrown through the ropes or under the bottom rope, they are still in the match.
The last person standing in the ring will be the winner of the Royal Rumble match and earn a main event, championship match at WrestleMania 38.
The 2022 Royal Rumble event takes place on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 8:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on NBC’s Peacock app.
