Report: Packers ‘confident’ Aaron Rodgers will return in 2022
Aaron Rodgers isn’t acting like a player determined to leave Green Bay. Packers fans can be encouraged by the quarterback’s recent actions.
The Packers’ No. 1 priority this offseason is finding a way to keep Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay for at least one more season. The future Hall of Famer quarterback’s recent actions indicate that might not be a massive challenge for team officials at Lambeau Field.
According to NFL.com, Rodgers spent “several days” with Matt LaFleur and the team’s coaching staff after the team’s early playoff exit in an effort to chart the team’s future. Rodgers made no guarantees to team officials about his free agency future, but the idea that the Packers are “cautiously optimistic” about Rodgers’ future is a positive development for fans who want to see the quarterback extend his tenure with the franchise.
The big news here is that Rodgers appears to have mended any potential issues he might have with the team’s coaching staff. LaFleur may not be implementing Rodgers’ ideal offensive system, but it’s been a productive marriage on the field. At the very least, the team’s postseason failure doesn’t appear to have significantly impacted Rodgers’ short-term thinking.
None of this means Rodgers is determined to stay. It just means he was willing to work with the team’s coaching staff in hopes of crafting a bright future for the Packers. It’s likely he will still listen to pitches from other teams in the offseason but Green Bay fans can rest easy with the knowledge that he’s still open to returning to the team that drafted him.
This is a story that will feature numerous twists and turns as the offseason progresses but it’s impossible for Packers fans to interpret this as anything other than good news. Rodgers still has a serious attachment to the franchise. That’s the only reason he spent additional time with the staff after the season’s unfortunate end. The Packers are in better shape with Rodgers than most people believe before this news broke.
