The Auburn football program will have to navigate some more coaching turnover as new offensive coordinator Austin Davis is stepping away from football.
Well, the Auburn Tigers just got hit with some awful news as Austin Davis, who was very recently hired to be the offensive coordinator at Auburn, announced that he was resigning from his position and moving on.
That news is particularly challenging given the way Auburn’s season ended and how rough things were for the Tigers this year. Add that in to the fact that Derek Mason, previously Auburn’s defensive coordinator, was hired away to join the Oklahoma State Cowboys a few days back. It’s been a challenging week for Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin.
Our @AUUndercover staff can report that Auburn OC Austin Davis intends to step down from his position and leave the program. Hired just over a month ago from the NFL.

Davis made it clear he was leaving the Tigers for reasons that had nothing to do with the Auburn football program.
“The last week has been difficult for me as I’ve made the decision to step away from coaching football,” Davis’ statement reads.
According to the statement, Davis is “grateful for the opportunity” to be the offensive coordinator at Auburn. Davis also made sure to note his appreciation for the way Harsin has helped handle the situation.
“My decision to resign is 100 percent based on personal reasons,” the statement continues. “After more than a decade in the NFL with the daily grind as a player and coach I’ve realized just how much I miss my family and my desire to spend more time with them.”
It is not clear how Harsin and the Tigers will replace Davis. This part of the coaching cycle always seems like an odd time to try and find new coaches, though there are plenty of coaches out there and available.
