Dak Prescott declines Pro Bowl invite: Should Cowboys fans be worried?

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is not playing in the Pro Bowl after being selected as an alternate.

Dak Prescott deciding to not play in the Pro Bowl after being selected as an alternate may have some Dallas Cowboys fans concerned.

While America’s Team’s season ended prematurely once again, one would think Prescott would have been healthy enough to play in the end-of-season glorified exhibition. When healthy, he is one of the 10 or 12 best quarterbacks in the NFL. However, him deciding against going to the Pro Bowl is not as big of news as it initially sounds. He just wants to rest his body after rehabbing.

Prescott has been in constant rehabilitation mode since breaking his ankle back in Oct. 2020.

If Prescott does not want to go to the Pro Bowl, that is fine. He overcame a devastating injury a third of the way through the season two years ago. Rehabbing can be awful, so if he wants to take some well-deserved time off, then so be it. However, the Cowboys need to hit the ground running next year and really take advantage of the NFC East being down and the conference being in flux.

If the Cowboys are ever going to win a Super Bowl with this core, it would have to be next year. They still have top-flight defensive coordinator Dan Quinn employed. The Philadelphia Eagles are not yet ready to take the next step. The New York Giants are rebuilding and who knows what becomes of the Washington Football Team or whatever moniker they don after Groundhog Day.

Outside of the division, Tom Brady may retire, Sean Payton already retired and Aaron Rodgers could be leaving for an AFC West team residing in the Rocky Mountains. Simply put, the Cowboys will have their best chance in a while to contend for NFC supremacy next year. If they blow another golden opportunity at home like they did this past season, it may not be in the cards for this team.

While Prescott has earned the right to rest up, it remains a beyond-critical offseason for Dallas.
