The Chicago Bears are interviewing a recently-fired offensive coordinator to add to their coaching staff.

The Chicago Bears have a new regime in place with Ryan Poles as their new general manager and Matt Eberflus as head coach. The Bears have already found their new offensive coordinator in Luke Getsy, the former passing game coordinator of the rival Green Bay Packers. But, the Bears are still looking to fill out their staff, and have an intriguing name in mind.

According to Albert Breer of The MMQB, the Bears are interviewing former Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady on Tuesday, Feb. 1, for a position on their coaching staff.

Bears reportedly to interview Joe Brady for position on coaching staff

Brady made the leap to the NFL after a successful 2019 season as the passing game coordinator for the LSU Tigers. Of course, that was the very campaign where the Tigers went undefeated and won the National Championship behind the play of Heisman-winner Joe Burrow. He joined the Panthers to be the offensive coordinator under head coach Matt Rhule.

After his first season, Brady received head coaching interest from multiple teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans and Los Angeles Chargers. But, he did not end up with a job and returned to Carolina.

The Panthers offense never really clicked, mostly due to the play of the quarterback. After a strong start to the season, Sam Darnold’s play regressed until he suffered a shoulder injury. Then, the Panthers brought back Cam Newton to help lead the offense, which did not work either. Not only that, but Carolina only had star running back Christian McCaffrey available for 10 games the past two seasons due to injuries.

During Carolina’s bye week, Brady was fired as offensive coordinator. After the season, the Panthers hired former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo to replace him.

It will remain to be seen if Brady will end up on the Bears’ coaching staff, but they are interviewing him for some role with the team.
