2022 NFL Mock Draft: Buccaneers, Steelers draft Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger successors
By Brad Weiss
On Wednesday, the Washington Football Team officially became the Washington Commanders, making it much easier to write about the franchise. While the fan base seemed split on the name change, it will be much more refreshing as a writer to write Commanders, instead of constantly writing out the Washington Football Team.
Anyway, the Commanders hold the No. 11 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and with that selection, they need to add to their offensive line. Yes, they need a quarterback, but I believe they will try to get one via free agency or a trade, making Charles Cross an excellent selection here to kick off the next ten selections.
Another team that is looking for a new head coach is the Minnesota Vikings, who cleaned out this offseason, firing their general manager and head coach. With their general manager in place, it seems the Vikings could be in the market for Jim Harbaugh, who has been one of the hotter coaching candidates this cycle.
No matter who comes in as head coach, they have to do something about this defensive line, and Jordan Davis is a guy who could end up rocketing up draft boards. He is big, physical, and athletic, and would fill an immediate void on this Vikings defense upfront.
The No. 13 overall pick belongs to the Cleveland Browns, who have committed to continue to roll with Baker Mayfield as their starting quarterback. Whether you agree with that or not, the truth is, Mayfield is returning in 2022, and the team needs to start adding some weapons around him.
In our latest mock draft, the Browns select a wide receiver, and it is the first wideout off the board and someone who played his college ball inside the state of Ohio. Garrett Wilson should be the first wide receiver selected in 2022, and staying home, he will have no shortage of fans.
One of the bigger disappointments of the 2021 NFL season was the fact that Lamar Jackson was injured towards the end of the year. The Baltimore Ravens did a nice job hanging in, being eliminated in Week 18, so while they did not make the playoffs this year, they should be back in the mix in 2022.
Now they have to work on filling some voids on their defense, and they do so by adding one of the premier cornerbacks in this class here at pick No. 14. Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner is an extremely talented corner with great cover skills and hands, making him an excellent pairing with Marlon Humphrey in this secondary.
