Boxing champions Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano meet on April 30 in a historic event at Madison Square Garden. Jake Paul and Serrano team-up.

After a lot of waiting, the super fight between boxing champions and Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano is a go. They’ll meet on April 30 in the historic main event at Madison Square Garden. Strangely enough, we may have Jake Paul to thank for putting this whole thing together.

Yes, you read that right.

Serrano is signed to Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions. Paul’s promotional foray into boxing centers around his collaboration with Serrano, but his boxing business aspirations might not end there.

Taylor and Serrano were supposed to meet in 2020, but contractual disagreements erupted due to the pandemic, and the fight was scrapped. Both Taylor and Serrano won multiple bouts since and cemented their places as two of the best boxers in the world.

Still, it seems like it took Paul’s involvement to ensure that these two titans in the sport could finally come together.

Whether you love him or hate him, you have to respect Paul’s evolution from Disney star to wildly popular YouTuber, to boxer, and now boxing promoter. The bond between Serrano and Paul appears strange from the outside looking in. Serrano admits that she and Paul are two very different people.

“It’s funny because it’s like yin and yang,” said Serrano about her and Paul to FanSided. “We’re total opposites. I mean, he’s a great athlete, but outside of that with the social media, and he’s into that. I’m not into that stuff. We’re both tremendous athletes. We work super hard, and I think that’s what really brought us together.”

Serrano is an introverted champion who has conquered seven different weight classes as a world champion. Paul is a novice boxer who is a quick study but is known for his prolific social media following. He’s proving to have much more value and talent than just a social media influencer. Serrano saw that early on, which is why she linked up with Paul.

However, others doubted Serrano’s decision to team up with Paul.

“At first, it was like, ‘Who’s that?’ He was coming up in the sport,” said Serrano. “And a lot of people would say, ‘Oh, yeah,’ like the younger crowd was like, ‘Oh, my God. Yes, yes. Yes. Yes.’ My nephews, they loved it. I think it has to be the fastest and the easiest decision that I made.”

It turns out that Serrano’s nephews had a reason to be excited. Paul recently told “The MMA Hour” that Serrano and Taylor would make seven-figure paydays. That, combined with the first female main event at New York’s Madison Square Garden, gives Paul bragging rights and legitimacy as a boxing businessman.

Serrano is now getting DMs from fellow boxers asking her to hook them up with Paul. This could become a trend. After all, if Paul could work his magic for Serrano, why can’t he follow that success with someone else?

Incredibly, the relationship that Serrano and Paul forged in the boxing gym has now worked its way to the most important fight in women’s boxing history.

“In the gym,” said Serrano of her first meeting with Paul. “We met, then the first time I fought on the undercard, I went to his gym. I trained with him, and I was like, he’s the real deal. He’s serious. And, you know, a lot of people have [said], ‘you know, he’s just a YouTuber.’ No. In the gym, phones are off. He has his whole crew that are supporting him and just like amping him up, and you can just see he’s an athlete in the gym.”

Paul saw something special in Serrano too, and he’s looking for his vision for Serrano to come to fruition.

“It’ll be so undeniable, and Amanda Serrano will become a household name,” said Paul of Serrano to FanSided. “And I said it since day one, she’s gonna be on billboards everywhere. And you know, that’s what she deserves. So it’s really cool to be a part of it.”

Don’t expect Paul’s foray into boxing promoting to end with Serrano. Paul says he’s into boxing for the long haul. Who knows? Could he be the next Bob Arum? Paul checked that comparison pretty quickly.

“I don’t want to be anything like Bob Arum,” said Paul. “But definitely, more like a Eddie Hearn. I’m always gonna be involved in boxing. I see myself being a promoter and using my platform to help fighters, and I love it.”

Say what you want about Paul, but he had a major role in making Taylor vs. Serrano happen. Now, Serrano just has to win to complete Paul’s prediction. He seems pretty confident she will be the victor on April 30.

“But I just feel like Amanda might have more grit and get a knockout,” said Paul. “Like, I don’t know. I just feel it. I feel it. And that would be incredible. But regardless, she wins by decision, of course, but I just think you never know how someone’s gonna react. But I would put all my money on Amanda.”
