Did Joel Embiid take a shot at Ben Simmons on Twitter? Not so fast

Some are taking Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid’s most recent tweet as a shot towards Ben Simmons.

The Philadelphia 76ers saw their recent five-game winning streak end on on Wednesday, Feb. 2 after a 106-103 loss to the Washington Wizards. The 76ers have gone the whole season without Ben Simmons, who demanded a trade off the team and has not suited up because he was not mentally ready.

As is the case with the NBA, fans are looking for drama. So, they looked at star Joel Embiid’s most recent tweet, which was a picture of a “Charmin Ultra Soft.” Some thought that this picture was a direct shot at Simmons.

While many instantly thought that this was a shot directed at Simmons, there were social media users who pointed out that Embiid was talking about Cameroon’s match against Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations. Cameroon lost on penalty kicks.

Embiid was tweeting about the match after sending out the picture, as evidenced below:

With Simmons demands off of the 76ers, the NBA is set to have its trade deadline on Feb. 10. However, the expectation is that he will not be moved. According to a report from The Athletic, the 76ers prefer to wait to trade Simmons until the offseason, where they can make a run at a superstar such as James Harden. Then, the Sixers can use Simmons in a potential sign-and-trade deal.

As for Embiid, he is shining for the 76ers this season. Through 39 games, Embiid is averaging 29.1 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 49.5-percent from the field.

Social media, always looking to decipher cryptic tweets. In this case, they were determining whether or not Embiid was sending a message to Simmons.
