Carlos Correa rumors: Where things stand as lockout lingers in February
MLB fans are hoping the lockout can end soon so everyone can find out which team Carlos Correa will suit up for next.
Carlos Correa is still waiting for a new place to call home. After his brilliant playing days with the Houston Astros from 2015-2021, all signs are pointing to Correa joining a new team soon. Before Correa can sign a new deal, however, the MLB lockout will need to end.
While people wait for that to happen, the Correa rumors continue to heat up. Fans in Houston are hopeful of a return to the AL West, but that just seems unlikely. So, where could Correa end up?
Carlos Correa continues to be linked to the Yankees and Cubs
While the offseason has been rough for Brian Cashman and the New York Yankees, they still have time to save things. Correa’s name continues to be mentioned with New York, with a move to the Bronx in the cards. New York is also expected to make a run for first baseman Freddie Freeman.
Another team in the mix are the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs are in a rebuild, as they traded Kris Bryant, Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo before the deadline this past summer. Adding a shortstop of Correa’s caliber would surely excite the fanbase. You already know Wrigley Field would welcome Correa with open arms.
Earlier this week, CBS Sports’ R.J. Anderson said there’s only a small number of teams still actively in the hunt for a shortstop. Because of this, Anderson thinks the Cubs, Yankees and Astros make the most sense. Anderson added that a surprise or team two could eventually pop up, but that feels unlikely. We’ll have to keep waiting for the lockout to get settled, but those three teams appear to make the most sense.
