Checking in on the college basketball rankings after Kansas dominated Baylor and No. 1-ranked Auburn survived a huge scare from Georgia.

After taking a loss at home in Lawrence, the Kansas Jayhawks clearly were motivated to not let that happen again. The No. 10 team in the latest college basketball rankings hit the floor at Allen Fieldhouse to take on arguably the other top team in the Big 12 this season, the No. 8-ranked Baylor Bears. You’d have thought the bears were unranked, though.

Kansas completely dominated the action from start to finish. The result was a monstrous 24-point victory that, somehow, didn’t even seem that close.

Elsewhere early on Saturday, the top-ranked Auburn Tigers put themselves in danger of losing that spot with a road game at Georgia. Despite overmatching the Dawgs, they went down to the final possession but survived the upset scare with a big win.

One more big result was a dud laid by the Michigan State Spartans. Tom Izzo’s team should’ve had the edge over Rutgers, even on the road. Instead, they went into the Jersey Mike’s Arena and looked out of their depth in a blowout loss.

Needless to say, the college basketball ranking are going to get shaken up after this.

Projected college basketball rankings after Kansas dominates Baylor, Auburn survives

  1. Auburn Tigers
  2. Gonzaga Bulldogs
  3. Kentucky Wildcats
  4. Purdue Boilermakers
  5. Houston Cougars
  6. Arizona Wildcats
  7. Kansas Jayhawks
  8. UCLA Bruins
  9. Duke Blue Devils
  10. Villanova Wildcats

Despite the impressive wins Baylor has this year, I don’t see how the Bears can stay in the top 10 after a conference loss like that and a loss to unranked Alabama last week. That’s just too many bad results of late with other teams playing well.

Kansas, on the other hand, should threaten the top five of the rankings once again. I doubt they get that high without some more help, but it should definitely be noted that the Jayhawks bounced back in the manner they needed to, even with Remy Martin still out of the lineup.
