25. Junior Seau, San Diego Chargers/New England Patriots

The amazingly-talented Junior Seau left us much too soon. But his story can be told in many ways and he will always be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The fifth overall selection in the 1990 NFL draft by the then-San Diego Chargers was one of the great defensive forces in the league over the past 30 years.

The standout pro would spend the first 13 seasons of his career in the city where he was born. And his final 12 campaigns with the Bolts ended with Pro Bowl invitations. The Chargers would reach Super Bowl XXIX in his fifth season but the team fell to the very-talented San Francisco 49ers in South Florida, 49-26.

Speaking of the Sunshine State, Seau would spent the following three seasons with the Miami Dolphins. His next and final stop would be Foxborough and four years with the New England Patriots. The savvy veteran would get another shot at a ring as part of the 16-0 Pats in 2007. But that dream would end in the final moments of Super Bowl XLII thanks the New York Giants’ combination of Eli Manning, Plaxico Burress and David Tyree. In his final seasons with New England, Seau would be limited to a total of 11 games.

Countless tackles, 56.5 sacks, 18 interceptions and 18 takeaways added up to one amazing career. But not just enough to get the popular Seau a Super Bowl championship.
