3.8 rebounds per game

The Charlotte Hornets have a very strange history. They came into the league in 1988, left for New Orleans in 2002, then they returned as the Charlotte Bobcats two years later. Of course, the team would take on the Hornets name again in 2015, and the New Orleans team would become the Pelicans. Even with those many different iterations of the franchise, there wasn’t a ton of success with the Hornets. The team has never made it past the second round of the playoffs, so there aren’t exactly too many legends in this franchise.

One legend is undoubtedly Kemba Walker. His current rough patch with the New York Knicks notwithstanding, Walker was one of the greatest players in the history of this franchise. Walker progressively got better every season with the Hornets. He was a star at UConn and came into the league with a lot of expectations. His scoring got better and better.

He had 12 points per game in his rookie season, averaged 17 points per game in the next three seasons, and then he broke 20 points per game in seasons five through seven. In his final season with the Hornets, he broke 25 points per game for the first time in his career. He was tied with Bradley Beal for 10th in the league for scoring that season.

Walker’s greatest accomplishments came in clutch moments. As he did in college, he had an affinity for making shots when they mattered most. His clutch nature is what made him a legend in Charlotte. There wasn’t a ton of playoff success, as the Hornets/Bobcats didn’t have a great team around Walker. He did what he could to lift this franchise to new heights.
