Denver Nuggets — Fat Lever

1984-1990
17.0 points per game
7.5 assists per game
7.6 rebounds per game

The Denver Nuggets had one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history when they sent Kiki Vandeweghe to the Portland Trail Blazers for Fat Lever and a bunch of complementary pieces. What transpired was a change in the Nuggets franchise. Lever immediately took the Nuggets from a fringe playoff team to one of the best teams in the Western Conference. They won 52 games in Lever’s first season, and they made a run to the Western Conference Finals.

It was a controversial move for the Nuggets to give up on Vandeweghe at such a young age, but it was clear the Nuggets needed more. Lever was the perfect complement to the team, and he grew into a superstar in Denver.

Lever was one of the best players in history when it came to getting triple-doubles. He is 10th all-time with 43 in his career. Most of them came in the six seasons he spent in Denver. Lever is constantly considered as a player who was ahead of his time. He would have been appreciated more if he were playing today. That’s why he only made one All-Star Team when he was in Denver. He should have been a perennial member of the All-Star Team.

A player will have a lot of trouble taking over for Lever. He’s one of the best in the history of this franchise, and he rarely gets his due. Seeing what he did on the court was a sight to be seen.
