Braves DH target: Jorge Soler

As much as the Braves should probably look to maybe bring back Joc Pederson or Eddie Rosario, neither is as much of a fit for the DH spot as Jorge Soler. An unimpressive fielder throughout his career, he’s a bit of a wild card but also probably the most affordable option on this list.

Soler struggled in the early part of his career as a member of the Chicago Cubs. He wasn’t so good with the Kansas City Royals either until 2019 when he hit a career-high 48 home runs. Not so lucky with Kansas City in 2020 or 2021, he found his swing again with the Braves in the latter part of 2021. He went from slashing .192/.288/.370 with the Royals to finishing up the year with a .269/.358/.524 performance with the Braves.

As expected, he maintained and even increased his power after the trade.

The 2021 World Series MVP deserves another shot to remain in Atlanta. He hit three home runs for them on Atlanta’s way to taking down the Houston Astros last fall. Soler may not have had the same regular season as the other three names on this list, but there’s a benefit to the lower price tag and familiarity. Plus, for as bad of a defender as he is, he might be the best among Schwarber, Cruz, and Castellanos.

The Braves will have a lot of short-term nostalgic celebrating to do in the early part of 2022. Having the World Series MVP around would make it better.
