2022 NFL Draft: Tennessee Titans 7-round mock
Round 3: Sam Williams
The Titans’ front office will face a long wait before they’re able to make their second draft pick. Tennessee does not currently have a second-rounder at their disposal so they need to make sure they make their sole pick of the third round count.
Harold Landry is a serious flight risk in free agency which means Tennessee needs to acquire some edge-rushing help via the draft. Williams is a big, powerful prospect who shows surprising quickness on the perimeter. He’s a very different sort of player than Landry, but he could help Tennessee’s defense against both the run and pass as a rookie.
The big question about Williams landing in Tennessee is whether or not he’s best suited to play as a defensive end with his hands on the ground or as a big, standup linebacker on the edge. The Titans’ front office shouldn’t overthink the issue. Williams projects as a plus pass-rusher and they can figure out the fit later.
The Titans have to add an immediate contributor for their defensive front early in April’s draft and Williams profiles as that sort of prospect. Landing him in Round 3 would be a coup for the team’s front office.
