Matthew Stafford’s family gave the Los Angeles Rams quarterback a send-off as he left for Super Bowl 56.

Matthew Stafford has never gotten to reach this point. But after spending 12 years with the Detroit Lions and being traded to the Los Angeles Rams, Stafford is competing in his first-ever Super Bowl. It was a long time coming for the former Georgia Bulldog, as he gets ready to bring home his first Super Bowl ring.

Stafford left for the big game on Saturday night, and was greeted by family and friends. Stafford’s wife, Kelly, posted the video on her Instagram account.

Stafford has been in the NFL since 2009, as he was selected by the Lions with the first-overall pick. Even though he played at a high level in Detroit, the quarterback could only reach the playoffs three times. Each of those trips ended in a one-and-done loss.

But this offseason, the Rams decided to make the move to acquire Stafford in exchange for Jared Goff and draft picks. Sure enough, the trade has paid off for the win-now Rams.

This season, Stafford won a career-high 12 games in his firs year in Los Angeles. He threw for 4,886 yards, 41 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while completing 67.2-percent of his passes. That allowed the Rams to win the NFC West over the Arizona Cardinals.

In the playoffs, Stafford scored his first career playoff victory in a 34-11 drubbing of the Cardinals. Then, he helped knock off the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, despite the team blowing a 27-3 lead. Yet, Stafford’s huge pass to wide receiver Cooper Kupp set up Matt Gay’s game-winning field goal at the buzzer to win 30-27 and advance. Then, the Rams pulled out the 20-17 victory over the rival San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, with Stafford clinching his spot in the Super Bowl.

For Stafford to win his first championship, he will have to get past the Cincinnati Bengals and Joe Burrow.
