2022 NFL Draft: Houston Texans: 7-round mock
By John Buhler
Houston Texans Mock Draft – Fifth Round
The Texans do not have a fifth-round pick this year from the Anthony Miller trade with the Chicago Bears.
Houston Texans Mock Draft – Sixth Round
The Texans have three sixth-round picks this year: Their own at No. 182, the Green Bay Packers’ at No. 204 from the Randall Cobb trade and the San Francisco 49ers’ at No. 206 by way of the New York Jets as a part of the Shaq Lawson trade. With their own sixth-round pick, the Texans added Oklahoma State cornerback Christian Holmes to play alongside Smoke Monday in this draft class.
With the No. 204 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Texans take Western Michigan quarterback Kaleb Eleby with the pick they received from Green Bay in the Cobb trade. Houston may see what Davis Mills can do in a second season in Pep Hamilton’s offense, but they could use a depth pick at quarterback. Eleby certainly had his moments playing for the Broncos in the MAC.
And with the No. 206 overall pick coming by way of the 49ers through the Jets, the Texans can really take whoever they want here. After having sufficed all of their major draft needs, go get a running back who played in plenty of big games. If Hassan Haskins is still on the board, take the Michigan man, please. Adding a proven college running back will help give this offense a chance.
Houston Texans Mock Draft – Seventh Round
And with their last pick of the draft, the Texans will use essentially the seventh-round pick they got from the Dallas Cowboys for defensive tackle Eli Ankou on LSU Tigers cornerback Cordale Flott. When in doubt, it is always worthwhile taking a flier on a defensive back who hails from DB U. Though the Bayou Bengals struggled since Joe Burrow left, Flott is worth the roll of the dice.
With nine selections, the Texans are able to solve all of their draft-day needs in the early 200s.
