Round 2: Trey McBride

Part of this Jacksonville’s draft plan this year must be to give Lawrence more weapons to work with on the offensive side of the football. The team needs to upgrade their wide receiving corps but a high-quality tight end could do wonders to help Lawrence next season.

There’s a reasonable chance McBride goes off the board at the end of Round 1 as this season’s top tight end. If he flips to the top of Round 2 he should be an easy choice for the Jaguars. He’d comfortably be their No. 1 tight end next season and can be counted on to give Lawrence a very important safety valve on key passing situations.

McBride isn’t just a pass-catching tight end who can be flexed out into space. He’s also a solid in-line blocker that can help support his team’s rushing efforts. He’s a player who can be on the field all the time due to his versatility.

McBride may never lead the NFL in catches at his position but he’s got a chance to become a key cog of the next good Jaguars’ offense. Whatever he lacks in terms of elite upside he more than makes up for in certainty at this spot in the draft.
