Mark Richt and Kirby Smart wasted no time in recognizing the accomplishments of former Georgia football players on the Los Angeles Rams who won Super Bowl 56.

If it felt like both teams involved in Super Bowl 56 were loaded with former Georgia Bulldogs, you’re not alone. The SEC program produced a number of stars competing for a championship Sunday evening.

The Los Angeles Rams came out on top of the Cincinnati Bengals to win it all and that means some guys who played at the same school ended up defeating others who happened to go to their alma mater.

Not every former Bulldog connected to a team competing in the Super Bowl will be able to get a championship ring in the near future, but that doesn’t mean Georgia fans can’t still celebrate for the ones who won. Mark Richt, a coaching legend for the Bulldogs, quickly took to Twitter to celebrate Matt Stafford, Leonard Floyd and Sony Michel for winning the Super Bowl.

Richt wasn’t the only Georgia coach who wanted to give a shoutout to some former Bulldogs. Kirby Smart also jumped at the opportunity to heap some praise on the Super Bowl champs.

There’s a very practical reason to congratulate these guys in a very public way. With so many Bulldogs making it all the way to the Super Bowl, highlighting this sort of success is a brilliant recruiting tool for Georgia. There aren’t many better ways to point out to prospective players why they should end up playing for your team.

Of course, more importantly, Richt and Smart also know the guys they’re celebrating. There’s a personal reason to do this too. And that personal reason will always be worth more than any sort of recruiting pitch.
