WWE rumors: Huge WrestleMania return possible for Kevin Owens program
By Scott Rogust
Multiple reports indicate that WWE is trying to get a huge opponent to face Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38.
WrestleMania 38 is on the horizon, and is set to take place across Apr. 2-3 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. With the event taking place across two nights, it sounds as though WWE is planning on pulling out all of the stops for it.
According to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp (paywall), WWE has “made an overture” to get Stone Cold Steve Austin to return for a match at WrestleMania. The report indicates that they have not heard about a potential opponent for Austin and if any progress has been made to secure Austin for the big show.
Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer tweeted out about a potential match being discussed for the show is Stone Cold Steve Austin versus Kevin Owens.
WWE trying to get Stone Cold Steve Austin to return for match at WrestleMania
Austin has not wrestled in a match in any capacity since WrestleMania 19 back in 2003, when he faced off against Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for the third time at the big show. The Rock defeated Austin for the first time at WrestleMania, and Austin retired.
As the Fightful report mentions, it is unknown if a return at WrestleMania for Austin is guaranteed.
In recent WWE programming, Owens has been teased about not even having at match at WrestleMania this year, causing him to say that he needed to compete for the fans in Texas. But on the Feb. 14 edition of Raw, Owens bashed the Lone Star State. Coincidence?
Again, it is unknown if Stone Cold will actually come out of retirement for a match in Arlington.
