4) Yankees move to make them World Series champions: Trade Luke Voit to a National League team that needs a DH

Luke Voit’s reign in New York didn’t last long. After hitting a league-leading 22 home runs in 2020, he suffered through many injuries in 2021 and saw his performance decline. Once acquired in a trade by the Yankees in what looked like an absolute heist against the St. Louis Cardinals, the team now looks ready to move on from him.

With Freeman or Olson on the roster, Voit is far more expendable. Fortunately, there’s an entire National League out there where he can land maybe even become the DH. And if he’s not the designated hitter, Voit can play a decent first base for them.

What the Yankees get in return for Voit is important for their championship hopes. They can use him to get some depth on the roster to help protect themselves from injuries. Even if all they get in return is someone in the minor leagues, it’s a winning move. Voit could turn into a distraction quickly. Moving him this offseason is important so the story doesn’t become how unhappy he is.

There is a market for a guy like Voit. A team looking to take the next leap from just below .500 to a wild card contender could view him as a rebound candidate. Voit has played well before. In the right location, he can do it again.
