Could the Kansas City Chiefs sign Odell Beckham Jr.? NFL insider Jeremy Fowler seems to think so.

The question is more does Kansas City need to sign OBJ this offseason, or do they have more pressing needs?

After losing to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game in a shocking manner, KC will look to reload this offseason and become even more dangerous prior to the 2022 season. What they lack in cap space they make up for in, uh, having Patrick Mahomes and recruiting.

Beckham Jr. went down with an ACL injury in the Super Bowl which will cause him to miss significant time and will impact his contract talks. Because of this, Beckham Jr. could be inclined to take a prove-it contract, which is exactly what the Chiefs would want.

Can you imagine a Chiefs offense with Beckham Jr., Tyreek Hill AND Travis Kelce. Christmas could come early for the Mahomes family.

Can Chiefs afford Odell Beckham Jr.?

Per Over the Cap, the Chiefs will enter the offseason with around $14.5 million in cap space. However, you have to factor in that some of it will go to draft picks and towards their efforts to re-sign the likes of Tyrann Mathieu and other key free agents.

Beckham Jr. would be a luxury, not a necessity. Wide receiver isn’t a position of need for a team with as many weapons as the Chiefs possess.

So, yes, while it’s fun to imagine Mahomes throwing the ball in Beckham Jr.’s direction, it’s not as realistic as some pundits like to think.

As unfortunate as it was, OBJ’s ACL injury would help put him in the Chiefs’ price range, as without it Beckham Jr. would surely be looking for a multi-year deal. If Kansas City opts to pay the one-year price tag for Beckham Jr., it would create a near-impossible to stop receiving corps.

If not, it shouldn’t come back to haunt them, either.
