Anthony Davis injury update: How bad is his latest ankle injury?
Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis is expected to be out for the next two weeks with his latest ankle injury, according to an ESPN report.
When LeBron James was sidelined with subsequent injuries early in the Lakers’ 2021-22 season, it created anxiety among fans who wondered how the team would fare without their biggest star.
In February, the anxiety arises once again as Anthony Davis is now expected to miss two weeks due to an ankle injury endured on Feb. 16, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
Per McMenamin’s report, “Davis underwent X-rays at Crypto.com Arena that revealed no fracture,” which is a reassuring sign in regards to the remainder of the season. Lakers coach Frank Vogel stated that Davis has an MRI scheduled for Feb. 17, and Davis will be reevaluated again after the upcoming All-Star break.

Part of what makes the Davis injury so challenging is that he has been relatively fortunate over the course of his career in regards to injuries. While Davis has endured injuries here and there, last year was the first season that was significantly impacted by injury for Davis, who only played 36 of 72 games. This is similar to LeBron, who is starting to endure more injuries with age despite his relatively injury-free decades in the league.
Without Davis, the Lakers face a losing battle with a team that is still struggling to hover around .500. Sitting ninth in the Western Conference, the 27-31 Lakers could begin to tank if Davis’ ankle is worse than initially believed.
“Obviously it’s sickening to see AD go down in that fashion,” James said of his teammate. “I hope he’s fine. Obviously, I mean, I know he’s not like, great, but obviously his health is most important for him individually, for our ballclub. I’ve seen [teammates get injured] too many times, obviously. So I just wish him the best.”
