2022 NFL Draft: New York Giants 7-round mock
New York Giants Mock Draft – Third Round
The rebuild along the Giants’ offensive line continues here with the selection of Patterson, Notre Dame’s starting center. New York tried to address the center spot in the past with Nick Gates but he suffered a career-threatening leg injury in Week 2 of the 2021 campaign, making this selection a necessity.
A capable run blocker, Patterson isn’t the most flashy prospect but he has demonstrated excellent technique for the Fighting Irish, particularly in the run game. Investing a pair of premium draft picks into offensive lineman should help the Giants address this unit on the fly.
Evan Engram is set to be a free agent after the season and he largely underachieved with the Giants so it won’t be shocking for New York to let him walk. New York does have Kyle Rudolph under contract for next season but can save $5 million by cutting him, making a more cost-efficient solution in the draft the play at the position.
Otton is a solid blocker with good receiving skills that can take his time to develop as a secondary weapon thanks to the Giants’ deep wide receiver group. New York will also appreciate the fact that Otton is a more traditional tight end than Engram, who worked best away from the line of scrimmage.
