New York Giants Mock Draft – Fourth Round

Pick Analysis. Alabama. 31. Scouting Report. RB. Brian Robinson Jr.. 108. player

Perhaps the most disastrous pick of the Gettleman’s entire tenure with the Giants was the choice to select Saquon Barkley with the second overall pick in 2018. Ignoring the chance to land a successor to aging franchise icon Eli Manning or secure a key building block in the trenches like Quentin Nelson, Gettleman tabbed Barkley with the belief that he was a potential Hall-of-Fame talent.

That pick has backfired spectacularly for the Giants, who have seen Barkley produce one good year before being plagued by injuries in each of the next two seasons. The smarter strategy in the modern NFL is to stockpile multiple running backs due to the physical toll the position takes on players, which is why Brian Robinson Jr. is the pick here.

A key contributor at Alabama, Robinson doesn’t excel in any one area but is a solid all-around running back. Those types of players have value in the NFL, especially if the Giants want to keep Barkley fresh over the course of the season.

Robinson’s versatility means he can fit seamlessly into any NFL offense, providing a long-term upgrade over Devontae Booker as New York’s No. 2 back. There is also the chance that Robinson can develop into a cost-efficient starter in a year or two, which would be a tremendous help to the Giants’ cap sheet.
