2022 NFL Draft: Green Bay Packers 7-round mock
Round 3: Thayer Munford
Munford spent a lot of time playing tackle at Ohio State but his future in the pros lies inside at the guard position. The Packers would be wise to nab him in the middle rounds and let him compete for a starting spot right away at right guard.
His gargantuan size makes Munford pop on film. The challenge for him at the next level will be to make sure he uses that power to his advantage on every snap. His technique needs solid improvement to make sure he gets his pad level down to the level required to be an effective run blocker.
Munford’s length and quick feet give him a chance to excel as the sort of guard who can get to the second level and turn average gains into big plays for his running backs. That requires a bit of projection for him as a relatively unpolished prospect, but that’s why he’s available in Round 3 rather than hearing his name called in Round 1.
The former Buckeyes’ lack of flexibility probably limits his ceiling to just being an above-average starter at guard, but that’s plenty of value for the Packers to look for in the middle of this year’s draft.
