Von Miller could come back to Denver with new defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero

It was odd when it happened, so it really could not be that odd if Von Miller returned to Denver in his free agency. Miller had spent his entire Pro Football Hall of Fame career with the Broncos after being the No. 2 overall pick out of Texas A&M in 2011. Though he missed all of 2020 with an injury and saw a downturn in production last year, he just won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams.

Miller might be part of the run-it-back demands of Aaron Donald in Los Angeles, but who says you can’t go home? Along with the Rams, and to some degree his hometown team in the Dallas Cowboys, Denver has to like its chances of signing Miller. Though he has no connection with Hackett, the Broncos’ new defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero was just with the 2021 Rams.

Evero was a former college teammate of Hackett’s at UC Davis. For him to have success in his new role, he will want to bring a player or two with him from Los Angeles to help solidify his scheme. The one player who can bridge both the old and new in Denver is Miller. He may have to mend fences with Paton, but Miller is the star edge player worth pursuing in free agency for the Broncos.

It may pain Donald to admit this, but Miller was 100 percent a short-term rental for Los Angeles.
