Is Aaron Rodgers going to retire?
By John Buhler
Green Bay Packers fans are nervous after Aaron Rodgers’ recent Instagram post.
Late into the night on Presidents’ Day, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers dropped a cryptic message on Instagram, sending the entire NFL world into a panic.
In that lengthy Instagram post, Rodgers thanked some of his Packers teammates, as well as his ex-fiancee Shailene Woodley. It sounded like a goodbye letter. Whether that is to Green Bay or to the NFL entirely remains to be seen. Though the four-time league MVP will have a robust market if he is put on the trading block, he is in his late 30s and could call it a career after this past season.
Is Rodgers going to retire, request a trade out of town or keep on playing for the Packers in 2022?
Aaron Rodgers rumors: Is Green Bay Packers quarterback going to retire?
Up to this point, Rodgers has spent his entire professional career in Green Bay. He was a late first-round pick by the Packers in the 2005 NFL Draft. While he had to serve as a backup to Brett Favre during his first three years in the league, Rodgers took over full-time in 2008 and never looked back. He guided the Packers to their most recent Super Bowl at the end of the 2010 NFL season.
While Rodgers and the Packers have not been back to the big game, he has been nothing short of a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer in Green Bay uniform. Though his troubles in conference championships and vs. the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs are well-documented, Rodgers has been a top-three quarterback throughout his career. The question is if he keeps playing football.
From the looks of it, it does not seem like he will be back in Green Bay for another season. This many “thank you’s” does not sound like a guy who wants to be back for another season. However, he is still at the peak of his game, and could request a trade to play somewhere else. The likeliest team to land him in a blockbuster trade would have to be the Denver Broncos over in the AFC.
It could go either way for Rodgers, but it seems like he is either retiring or looking at being traded.
