While the MLB lockout keeps Carlos Correa a free agent, Astros fans contemplate whether or not Correaās social media posts signal a return to Houston.
The MLB lockout hasnāt just slowed down the news cycle ā itās also frozen free agents signings in their tracks, leaving some of the MLBās biggest stars still on the market in mid-February.
Although they were rivals during the 2021 World Series, Freddie Freeman and Carlos Correa have this in common: they are two of the biggest remaining free agents whose respective teams hope they will re-sign.
Correa rumors have paired him with the New York Yankees, but if his blue glove signifies anything, itās that Correa hasnāt made any proclamation any way.
In this instance, the absence of news could be the best news of all, as Astros fans point to Correaās offseason activities with Astros teammates as an indication that he will remain in Houston after all.
Astros fans turn to social media for signs that Carlos Correa will re-sign in Houston
Houston media personality Michael Schwab has been one of many Astros fans drawing conclusions between Correaās social outings with teammates to a likely re-signing in Houston. When Correa went to see Bad Bunny with Yordan Alvarez, Schwab noted that Correa is āstill very much involved in the lives of current Astrosā, to which Machete Maldano ambiguously replied, āWe are family.ā
A co-host of the Locked On Astros podcast interpretedĀ Lance and Kara McCullersā attendance at Kylo Correaās baptism as a confirmed comeback to Houston. The McCullers were named as godparents to Carlos and Daniella Correaās infant son.
āLet me temper this tweet,ā he later wrote. āI donāt assume that because Correa is such good friends with his teammates that heās a lock to come back. It is more of a hopeful skepticism that I tweeted this.ā
Correa was also sitting alongside Alex Bregman and McCullers at UFC 271 on Feb. 12 at the Toyota Center.
What does all of this mean? Correa is still in Houston and continues to enjoy great relationships with his teammates, but this bears no indication on whether or not the Astros will agree to the contract Correa desires. While the future remains uncertain, maintaining positive relationships with his teammates and the Houston community can only be a good thing.
