1. Surprise cuts for the New York Giants – CB James Bradberry

This cut would be the most painful for the Giants and their fans as James Bradberry is still a No. 1 cornerback in the NFL. Bradberry made the Pro Bowl in his first season with New York and added four more interceptions in 2021, which should be an indicator that he still has several years left of high-level play.

The problem comes from the fact that Gettleman handed out a monster contract to Adoree’ Jackson last winter that the Giants don’t have a reasonable out from until next season. Jackson’s deal actually costs the Giants $3 million to cut him while adding $18 million in dead money, so they are stuck with a corner who has missed a combined 22 games over the past three years and recorded only one interception a year ago.

That isn’t the case with Bradberry, who can be cut to help the Giants save a whopping $12 million against the salary cap while creating an additional $9.7 million in dead money. Bradberry still has value as a No. 1 corner so the Giants could look to recoup an asset by trading him for draft picks, but the problem is everyone is aware of New York’s salary cap woes, which could lead teams to gamble that Bradberry will be cut instead.

Finding a way to replace Bradberry is also difficult since Jackson isn’t a true No.1 corner and New York’s depth at the position is lacking. Cutting a successful player like Bradberry is a difficult decision for Schoen to sell but those are the kinds of calls that New York will have to make since Gettleman left the franchise in shambles while trying frantically to win and save his job.
