Patterson, a former five-star recruit, transferred from Ole Miss to Michigan in 2018 to be the programās new starting quarterback under head coach Jim Harbaugh. In his first season, Michigan were 10-1 on the year before losing to Ohio State in the regular-season finale and to the Florida Gators in the Peach Bowl. For the 2019 season, the Wolverines went 9-4, losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Citrus Bowl.
Overall, Patterson threw for 5,661 yards, 45 touchdowns and 15 interceptions while completing 60.1-percent of his passes.
Patterson declared for the 2020 NFL Draft, but went unselected. He ultimately signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in May, but was waived that July. He then spent time in the CFL with the BC Lions and the Montreal Allouettes.
Now, Patterson holds the distinction of being the first overall selection of the 2022 USFL Draft. He will now play for the Panthers, coached by Jeff Fisher, formerly of the Tennessee Titans and St.Louis/Los Angeles Rams.
