Cardinals rumors: Sign top relief target Ryan Tepera

Ryan Tepera is said to be the main target for the St. Louis Cardinals once baseball activities can resume after a new CBA is reached.

The Cardinals are looking to find good, effective pitchers and believe they will get that in Tepera. In 43 games in 2021, he pitched 43.1 innings going 0-2 with one save and 50 strikeouts. He uses a slider that averages 86.5 mph with a 32.1-inch vertical drop and an active spin of 35 percent. The Cardinals do look for pitchers with good off-speed stuff.

In addition to the slider, he does have a four-seam fastball, a sinker, a curveball, and a change-up.

While the Cardinals weren’t looking for a pitcher for a specific role, it will be interesting to see what role Tepera will have with the Cardinals once he is signed. He will undoubtedly be an interesting fit with an amazing defense behind him.
