ESPN could soon have a new lead analyst for Monday Night Football with Troy Aikman reportedly close to signing with the network.

It looks like Monday Night Football will sound different in 2022.

Troy Aikman is close to completing a deal with ESPN to join MNF as the lead analyst, according to the New York Post.

The Fox analyst is expected to get a contract similar to Tony Romo’s at $180 million for 10 years.

Troy Aikman is getting set to shake up the Monday Night Football lineup

For the last two years, ESPN has had Steve Levy, Brian Griese and Louis Riddick in the booth. Aikman would come in and likely push Griese out.

And there could be even more changes.

A report from the NY Post in January suggested Al Michaels was a target for ESPN as the play-by-play man for Monday Night Football. He was the voice of MNF from 1986 to 2005 and he is expected to leave NBC this year, putting his services on the open market.

While Amazon Prime has been courting Michaels to take over their Thursday Night Football coverage, the pairing of Michaels with Aikman sounds like it has legs. The Post reported that Michaels wanted Aikman to join him at Amazon if that deal came together.

All of these moves will have some major ripple effects in the NFL broadcasting world. NBC may end up replacing Michaels on Sunday Night Football with Mike Tirico, who took over for Michaels on Monday Night Football from 2006 to 2015. Meanwhile, Fox will have to find someone to cover the loss of Aikman.
