1. Free agent targets for the Dallas Cowboys – Marcus Williams

The safety class is a deep one this offseason and Dallas will likely be in pursuit of several top safeties to upgrade their defensive backfield. The best safety that should be available is Marcus Williams, an emerging star for the New Orleans Saints who is just 26 years old.

The Saints opted to give the franchise tag to Williams a year ago despite their salary cap issues, a sign that they know how valuable he is to their defense. Williams rewarded them by playing top-notch football and only raised his profile ahead of free agency.

The salary cap problems are still there for New Orleans, which has to clear over $75 million to get under the cap before signing their draft picks or adding players to improve their roster. When you add in the fact that the Saints also have to figure out a way to retain Jameis Winston it should take the possibility of a second franchise tag out of play for Williams.

This is good news for the Cowboys, who would love to pair Williams with Jayron Kearse to create a dynamic safety duo. Dallas has its own salary cap problems to solve but if they can clear enough space to make a run at Williams he would be the perfect fit for their defense.
