2. Top free-agent landing spots for Marcus Williams – Dallas Cowboys

Another good landing spot that marries a need at safety with a contender comes in Dallas. It feels like the Cowboys have been chasing elite safeties for years but have never been able to land a true difference-maker at the position.

Dallas got solid play from Jayron Kearse at one spot but could definitely use an upgrade at the other. With Kearse set to test free agency as well, there is a chance that the Cowboys could be looking for two new safeties over the winter.

Williams would be a fantastic fit in Dan Quinn’s system since the Cover 3-based looks that it employs work best with excellent safeties. This model worked well for the Legion of Boom, which used Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas (a one-time Cowboys target) to lock down the middle of the field.

The problem that Dallas will run into here is its own salary cap problems, which could necessitate a trade of Amari Cooper just to get under the threshold. Finding a way to add a player like Williams without disrupting too much of their core is the kind of balancing act that Jerry Jones will need to sort out if he prioritizes Williams to boost the defense.
