If the Chiefs want to upgrade at wide receiver, then Demarcus Robinson walks

For as much fanfare that has surrounded the Chiefs potentially exploring options to upgrade at wide receiver in free agency, it signifies two things. One, they will need to free up more cap space to afford someone of the caliber they are looking for. And two, veteran wide receivers like Demarcus Robinson are probably going to have to be playing on a new contract somewhere else.

Robinson has spent his entire professional career in Kansas City uniform. Though he has not missed a game in his first six seasons out of Florida, Robinson is at-best the No. 3 wide receiver option on the Chiefs on a good day. In the wake of Sammy Watkins leaving the team, Robinson saw his productivity dwindle in the Kansas City offense. They could look to upgrade at receiver.

However, the Chiefs could afford Robinson on another short contract if they feel up against it with the salary cap. Not to say he will have a ton of leverage in his free agency, but there are other former Chiefs offensive assistants out there who could use a veteran wide receiver in free agency. While familiarity helps Robinson potentially return to the Chiefs, they know what they get in him.

Either the Chiefs shoot for the stars at receiver in free agency or they settle for Robinson again.
