Kirk Cousins played role in Vikings hiring Kevin O’Connell
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins was reportedly pushing for the team to hire Kevin O’Connell as the new head coach.
As soon as it was announced that Kevin O’Connell was taking over as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, perhaps there was no other player more jacked up than Kirk Cousins. Cousins is quite familiar with O’Connell, as he was the signal-caller’s quarterbacks coach previously in Washington.
Now, O’Connell and Cousins are being reunited in the NFC North, with big expectations on the way for the 2022 season. According to KFAN’s Paul Allen, Cousins was actually working overtime trying to convince the front office to go with O’Connell. In the end, the veteran QB got his wish.

With O’Connell now officially landing the job, this is surely only going to motivate Cousins to ball out once again in 2022. This past season, the veteran earned his third trip to the Pro Bowl after putting up some impressive numbers: 4,221 yards for 33 touchdowns and only seven interceptions.
Despite Cousins throwing the ball all over the field, Minnesota finished the regular season with a disappointing 8-9 record, missing out on the playoffs. Shortly after the campaign ended, the team parted ways with Mike Zimmer.
From that moment, the pressure was on the front office to find the right guy to take over. Minnesota is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, but fans are tired of this team underachieving. Now, those same fans are hopeful that O’Connell can help this squad reach its potential, and steal the NFC North title away from the Packers.
Things are trending in the right direction for this team. Cousins is a happy camper now that he’s got an old friend ready to coach him up as well.
