Packers London graphic conveniently leaves out Aaron Rodgers
The Green Bay Packers finally have the opportunity to play abroad in London in 2022—but it appears they’re playing it safe with Aaron Rodgers.
Moving on from the face of a franchise isn’t easy, but it has to start somewhere. While Aaron Rodgers is still dangling his franchise-altering decision over the heads of everyone in Green Bay, the Packers have decided to play it safe—at least, the marketing team has.
When the Packers announced they’d be heading to Londontown this fall, they emulated the iconic Abbey Road walk with some of their key players. Rashan Gary, Aaron Jones, Jaire Alexander, David Bakhtiari and Matt LaFleur trot across the iconic stripes, but Green Bay’s other Aaron is conspicuously missing.
Like the New Orleans Pelicans’ decision to feature CJ McCollum over Zion Williamson in recent email marketing, the graphic could indicate that the Packers are expecting to present an identity without Rodgers for the first time in at least 14 years.
Or they just don’t want to look foolish.
Green Bay Packers graphic doesn’t include Aaron Rodgers
While Packers fans are still hanging on for word from Rodgers, the decision to keep him out of the graphic reflects the team playing it safe for now. Jones, Alexander and Bakhtiari lead as seasoned vets on both sides of the ball, while dynamic 24-year-old outside linebacker Rashan Gary represents the promise future Packers teams hold.
Frankly, the Packers do have other stars in their constellation, yet the four-time NFL MVP has taken up most of the offseason headlines with his potential decision. Another star who is noticeably absent from this poster is Davante Adams, Rodgers’ favored wideout who is currently on the free agency market.
Although Rodgers and Adams have yet to announce their decisions, the Packers have made it clear that they will let it be.
