When is the first day of March Madness 2022?
By John Buhler
March Madness begins with the bracket reveal on March 13 but the First Four begins on March 15 and then the first full Thursday with 16 games is on March 17.
With conference play winding down and conference tournament time rapidly approaching, March Madness will be here very soon.
The men’s 2022 NCAA Tournament tips off with the First Four being played in Dayton, Ohio on March 15. Once those games are played, the NCAA Tournament really commences on March 17, St. Patrick’s Day. The tournament will run over the following extended weekends, culminating in the Final Four, which is being played in New Orleans this year. Selection Sunday is on March 13.
From the First Four to the first round, the 2022 NCAA Tournament begins in roughly two weeks.
March Madness: When does men’s 2022 NCAA Tournament start?
Once the First Four in Dayton starts, the first and second rounds will take place in eight different cities: Buffalo, Indianapolis, Fort Worth, Portland (OR), Greenville (SC), Milwaukee, Pittsburgh and San Diego. The Sweet 16 and the Elite Eight will be played out in these four cities: San Antonio, San Francisco, Chicago and Philadelphia. A tournament champion will be crowned in New Orleans.
While it is all about getting to New Orleans and playing under the bright lights of Caesars Superdome, what makes the NCAA Tournament so compelling is all the upsets that happen leading up to it. Look for heavy favorites to bite the dust in cities such as Indianapolis, Portland and Pittsburgh long before the nets are being cut down at the end of the season in New Orleans.
March Madness will be alive and front and center in the sports universe in the next few weeks.
