Breaking down PFF’s 4 possible landing spots for Amari Cooper
By John Buhler
Amari Cooper may have more fun and win the most with the Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs feel they have not appropriately addressed the void in their receiving corps since Sammy Watkins left. Though they already a Hall-of-Fame lock at tight end in Travis Kelce and a potential one at wide receiver in Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs may feel the need to add one more explosive weapon to their receiving corps this offseason. Cooper does seem to fit what they want.
Since Kansas City is not swimming in cash, the Chiefs will probably need to cut a player or two and get a few others to agree to restructurings for the dollars to make sense to add Cooper. A long-term deal with the Chiefs is probably not happening for him, but on a short-term one, he can absolutely be part of one of the best teams in the AFC. He may even win a Super Bowl with them.
Ultimately, Kansas City is a great landing spot for him. The Chiefs are going to win prolifically, regardless of if he is on the team or not. Spending a year or so with them will help Cooper’s legacy and potential future market value. However, if he does go to the Chiefs, he would be playing third fiddle in their receiving corps firmly behind the blazing Hill and the ultimate mismatch with Kelce.
If all parties want it to happen, Cooper will be a Chief, but this is not a seamless transition for him.
