Packers rumors: Green Bay interested in Super Bowl champion in free agency
The Green Bay Packers are rumored to be interested in Los Angeles Rams outside linebacker Von Miller despite some obvious hurdles.
The market for Von Miller in free agency this year could be fierce after the All-Pro linebacker helped the Rams win the Super Bowl.
Miller landed in Los Angeles via a surprise trade from the Broncos. Now he has to decide if he wants to stay with the Rams or explore other options in free agency.
If the latter, he would have no shortage of suitors, according to Pro Football Network.
Sources told Aaron Wilson that there is “strong mutual interest” between Miller and the Rams but the Chargers and Packers are among the teams who could vie for his attention.
Packers are reportedly interested in Von Miller
Specific to Green Bay, any interest shown in Miller would be dependent on a whole host of factors.
“The Packers also have shown interest but, of course, have a lot of restructures and roster cuts to work through to accommodate a Miller deal,” Wilson wrote. “This could all be in addition to a blockbuster contract for quarterback Aaron Rodgers and a likely franchise tag for wide receiver Davante Adams.”
Green Bay is expected to release outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith while Preston Smith is expected to get a contract extension, according to Wilson, leaving room in their linebacker corps for Miller.
There are a lot of things being juggled by the Packers, so it’s hard to say whether anything will come of their interest.
One thing is certain, no one expects Green Bay to be 100 percent set on anything until they find out what Aaron Rodgers has planned for his future. Any potential deal for Miller will be impacted by Rodgers’ status, whether he stays put or leaves.
