Baylor speedsters

It’s easy to get hung up on measurable at the Combine, especially when it comes to the 40-yard dash. Runs in shorts and a tee don’t always translate to ability in pads.

Still, there was some serious speed on display in Indianapolis year and a lot of it came via the Baylor Bears.

Cornerback Kalon Barnes ripped off the second-fastest 40-yard dash in Combine history, a mere 0.01 seconds behind record-holder John Ross. His was the fastest time ever for a cornerback.

Barnes’ teammates also showed out in the 40. Wide receiver Tyquan Thornton delivered a 4.28-second 40, with his unofficial time of 4.21 briefly looking like a new Combine record.

Defensive back J.T. Woods came through with a 4.36-second run, helping Baylor become the first school since 2003 to have three players run sub 4.4 in a single Combine. That was when USC’s Kareem Kelly, Troy Polamalu and Justin Fargas performed that feat. However, only Fargas was 0.01 faster than Woods.
