J.C. Jackson figures to be the top cornerback on the free-agent market and these five teams would be the best fit for his services.

The odds of finding a good cornerback in free agency are slim since most NFL teams lock up their stars before they even hit the open market. One notable exception could come this year as the New England Patriots may let J.C. Jackson test free agency instead of slapping the franchise tag on him.

Jackson was an incredible weapon for the New England defense as he smothered opposing receivers, racking up eight interceptions and a league-high 23 passes defensed during the regular season to earn a trip to the Pro Bowl. The bidding should be fierce for Jackson, who is firmly in his prime at 26 years old, and these five teams should do whatever they can to secure Jackson’s services in 2022.

5. Top landing spots for J.C. Jackson – Seattle Seahawks

The 2021 season was a disappointing one for Seattle, which missed the postseason and couldn’t even enjoy the benefit of a Top 10 pick after trading it to the New York Jets as part of the Jamal Adams trade. The absence of Russell Wilson for several games due to injury undoubtedly hurt Seattle but the Seahawks really need an upgrade at corner.

D.J. Reed and Sidney Jones were the Seahawks’ top two corners a year ago and neither is a true top-flight corner. Jackson would be the best corner Seattle has had since Richard Sherman left after the 2017 season, helping restore a significant level of fear to the secondary once known as the Legion of Boom.

The Seahawks do enter the offseason with $34 million in cap space so they can afford to pay Jackson a top salary to secure his services. The question becomes whether it is a wise investment for Seattle to pay Jackson when they still have to fix their offensive line to help keep Wilson from demanding a trade.
