ARCA hauler driver killed in accident on highway

A driver of the hauler truck of David Gilliland Racing’s ARCA team was killed in a crash on a Texas highway.

The hauler truck for David Gilliland Racing’s ARCA team was involved in a crash on Interstate-20 in Longview, Texas. The driver of the truck, Steven Stotts, died as a result of the accident. Stotts was 54-years-old.

Two passengers in the hauler truck were taken to a hospital and were released, said the David Gilliland’s Racing team. The driver of the Honda passport involved in the crash is listed in stable condition, per the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The hauler truck was on its way to Phoenix Raceway in Arizona for Friday’s ARCA Menards Series event.

The Texas Department of Public Safety revealed in a preliminary report, h/t FOX 5 Vegas, that the hauler truck was traveling behind the Honda Passport, which was towing a small trailer. The hauler truck failed to control it’s speed and struck the small trailer. The Honda struck the center median and the trailer fell into the eastbound lanes. The hauler truck traveled into the median and caught fire.

In an earlier statement, David Gilliland Racing said that their and driver Taylor Gray’s participation in the event at Phoenix Raceway “will be determined at a later time.”
